It did for me!
I caught a showing the day Prometheus premiered, wanting to see it because two of my favorite actors, Idris Elba and Noomi Rapace (the real Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) starred and because it’s been billed as a ‘sort-of’ prequel to the insanely good Alien.
Since the movie’s still pretty new, I won’t delve into the plot too much other than to point out the reason I’m confident video messaging will be around for a long, long time.
In the movie’s first act, Weyland Industries (yes, the movie’s producers created a functional, informative website for a fictional company) founder Peter Weyland addresses the crew of the scientific expedition ship Prometheus after they awaken from two years of cryo-sleep. The aged Weyland isn’t physically there to address the crew so his android, David, uses his tablet to bring up a room-sized holographic video of the company founder.
It was like Weyland was speaking from a giant, seamless white-labeled video message!
How remarkable!
Yeah, I know it’s just a movie, but it’s proof to me that video messaging is gaining ground in becoming a ubiquitous part of everyday communication. And I like to think director Ridley Scott agrees with me!
Interestingly, before I knew of this movie, I wrote a piece of video fan fiction discussing what I thought video messaging would look like in the future.
So what’s the takeaway from all this? That’s easy; video messaging and video mail are going to be in use for a long time and it’s best to get started sooner rather than later!
